We Love Snails!
15 Small Malaysian Trumpet Snails (Melanoides Tuberculata)
Often thought of as pests, however snails can be a great addition to the ecosystem of an aquarium. These elongated trumpet shape snails are very hardy and adaptable to a wide range of parameters. In our opinion Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS) are the most beneficial type of aquarium snail. Snails are great to help eat any left over food or decaying plant matter in the tank but continued overfeeding will cause a snail population boom! MTS will burrow into the substrate hiding during the day, in the process turning and mixing the substrate to keep any areas from becoming stagnant. At night they will come out for cleanup duty and can be seen crawling up the glass to eat algae or finding other food matter throughout the tank. This burrowing action is also very beneficial for plants and encourages a strong healthy root system. We strive to keep more than just fish in an aquarium, with live plants and snails we can naturally keep fish better and enjoy an entire ecosystem in a glass box!
