Java moss is from the Hypnaceae family. Native to Southeast Asia, it is commonly used in freshwater aquariums and requires minimal lighting. Grows taller and bushier with lower light. It attaches to rocks and driftwood easily for aquascaping. Can be manicured into a carpet growing on hardscape. If left alone long enough will grow into a massive portion the size of the tank. Perfect in shrimp and breeding / fry tanks because it offers lots of cover from the larger fish. Also great for shrimplets and fry to graze on any food stuck to or microorganisms on the moss.
